The main page, course cards with grades, an exam and its study plan, the weekly schedule and class notes, filmed in the real template.

What it does that most student planners don’t

Before building it, we read the low-star reviews of the most copied student templates. Students wrote that they typed the same course details again and again, couldn’t find out how to change a grade, had no setup guide and couldn’t get rid of the sample data. This planner answers each of those.

  • Your grade in every course

Type a score when work comes back. The course card shows your grade so far, with weights if your class uses them.

  • The score you need for your goal

Set a goal like 85 and the card tells you what you need on the rest of the work, or that you’re on track.

  • Exams with a study plan

Every exam counts down on the main page and opens with a topic checklist. Review sessions show up on the day you planned them.

  • Enter a course once

Add work from the course page and it’s linked for you. Class times build your weekly schedule by themselves.

We set it up from a fresh copy, the way you’ll get it: cleared the samples, renamed the courses, added class times, scored two items and checked the grade by hand.

What’s inside

The main page shows today’s classes, the next seven days and your next exams, with a card for each course and your week below. Every course has its own page.

Today, Next 7 days, Exams soon

Your classes for today, everything due this week with a countdown, anything overdue, and how many days are left until each exam. + Assignment, + Exam and + Task sit right under Today.

Also in the template

  • Eight kinds of work

Pick one for each item. Assignments, quizzes, exams, projects and presentations count toward your grade.

    • Quiz
    • Project
    • Presentation
    • Reading
    • Review
    • Task
  • Any term

Courses have a Term and a Current box, so semesters, trimesters and year-long classes all fit.

  • Made for your phone too

The main page stacks into one column in the Notion app. Add it to Favorites.

  • Sample courses

Five sample courses show what a busy term looks like. One button clears the samples and keeps the courses to rename.

  • A Start here page

Four short steps inside your copy, with pictures of where to click.

How to use it each day

  1. Open the main page: today’s classes on the left, the next seven days in the middle, exams on the right.

  2. Got new work? Click New page under Schoolwork on the course page, or + Assignment on the main page.

  3. Handed it in? Tick Done. Got a grade back? Type it in Score and the course card updates.

  4. Exam coming up? Add review sessions to its Study plan a week or two ahead.

Set it up in about ten minutes

Do this once, at the start of a term. It’s easiest on a computer.

  1. Buy it on the Notion Marketplace and add it to your workspace when Notion asks. A free Notion account is enough.

  2. Open Start here and click Clear sample data. The five sample courses stay so you can turn them into yours.

  3. Open a course from My courses and type your own course name. Pick a Term, tick Current and add a Goal if you have one.

  4. Under Class times, add each class with the days it runs and its start and end time. Your weekly schedule fills in from these.

  5. Add assignments and exams with New page under Schoolwork, so the course is filled in. When a grade comes back, type it in Score.

For afternoon classes, type pm or use 24-hour time, like 1:30pm or 13:30, so they sort in the right order.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if

  • You want classes, deadlines, exams and grades for every course in one place.
  • You want to know what you need on the rest of the term to reach your goal.
  • You take notes in class and want them next to the course.
  • Your school runs on semesters, trimesters or a full school year.

Look elsewhere if

  • You need a GPA or letter grades. It shows a percentage for each course instead.
  • You want due dates to sync to Google Calendar by themselves. Notion can’t do that.
  • You want a printed planner. This one lives in Notion.
  • You want a bright, decorated look. This one is calm green and cream.

Questions

Does it work on the free Notion plan?

Yes. It runs on databases, formulas and buttons, and the free plan has all three.

How is my grade worked out?

Each score is divided by its Out of number, or by 100 if that’s empty. If you give items a Weight, heavier items count more. Use weights on every graded item in a course or on none.

What does the goal line mean?

With a goal like 85, the course card works out the average you need on the graded work that’s still open. If your grade so far already covers it, it says you’re on track.

Does it work for any school year?

Yes. There are no fixed term dates. Each course has a Term and a Current box, and at the start of a new term you untick Current on last term’s courses. Their work and grades stay, off the main page.

Do I have to track grades?

No. Without scores, the course cards simply say No grades yet, and the rest of the planner runs as usual.

Can I add more than five courses?

Yes. My courses has a New button. Add one for every class you take this term.

Does it sync with Google Calendar?

Not on its own. A Notion template has no link to Google Calendar. In Notion Calendar, though, the Schoolwork database can sit beside your Google events, so due dates show up there.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Setup is easiest on a computer. After that, the Notion app shows the main page in one column, and adding work or ticking Done takes a tap.

Where does the template go after I pay?

From the Notion Marketplace, Notion adds it to your workspace right away. From Etsy, you download a PDF with the template link, open it and click Duplicate.

The databases

DatabaseWhat it holds
Courses One page per course with Term, Current, Goal, Teacher, Room, Link and Syllabus, plus the grade and goal formulas.
Schoolwork Every assignment, exam, reading, review session and task, with Type, Due, Done, Score, Out of and Weight. Exams link to their review sessions.

How it works inside

Grade so far
Points earned divided by points counted, over every graded item in the course, with Weight if set.
Goal line
Works out the average needed on the graded work still open. Reads on track, safe or out of reach when that fits.
Next 7 days
Open work due from today to a week ahead, plus anything overdue.
Exams soon
Items with the Exam type due today or later, soonest first.
Today
Classes whose Days include today’s weekday, for current courses only.
Sample work
