Watch the 47-second tour

Your recipe book, a recipe page, the week’s menu and the grocery list, filmed in the real template.

What it does that most recipe templates don’t

Before building it, we read the reviews of the most used recipe templates for Notion. What people loved most was a grocery list tied to their recipes, yet most templates either leave it out or make you link every ingredient by hand. These are the parts we changed.

  • Ingredients link themselves

Type an ingredient into a recipe’s table and it belongs to that recipe. There are no relations to set up.

  • Cook for any number

Type how many you’re cooking for and every amount changes, in kitchen fractions like 1 ½ tbsp.

  • A grocery list that fills itself in

Pick days for a few recipes and their ingredients land on the list by aisle. Cook a recipe twice and it buys for both.

  • Planning never deletes a recipe

Take a recipe off the menu and it stays in your book. New week empties the menu and the list, nothing else.

We set it up from a fresh copy, the way you’ll get it: cleared the samples, added a recipe with its ingredients, planned a week, shopped from the list and pressed New week. We checked the amounts at different Cook for numbers too.

What’s inside

The main page holds your recipes, this week’s menu and a link to the grocery list. Every recipe opens to its own page with ingredients, steps and notes.

Your recipes as a photo book

Each recipe is a card with its photo, time, servings, course and stars. Tabs gather Favorites, recipes you Want to try and Quick ones that take half an hour or less, along with Breakfast, Mains, and Baking and desserts.

Every recipe on its own page

Ingredients sit in a table with their Qty, Unit and aisle, then come the steps and your notes. Add to grocery list puts one recipe on the list, and I made this counts how often you cook it.

This week’s menu

Pick a day next to a recipe in the Plan tab and it shows up under that day, photo and all. Having oats three mornings? Pick all three days.

A grocery list by aisle

Everything the week’s menu needs, grouped into Produce, Dairy and eggs, Pantry and the rest, with how much to buy. Tick Got it in the store and the item drops off.

Family recipes and their story

Write who a recipe came from in From, and tell its story at the bottom of the page, like Grandma Rose’s Banana Bread.

Twelve recipes with real food photos show how it works. One button hides them all.

  • A Start here page

Five short steps inside your copy, with pictures of where to click.

How to use it each week

  1. Open the Plan tab and pick days for the recipes you want to cook.

  2. Open Grocery list and tick Got it as you shop.

  3. Cook from the recipe page, then click I made this.

  4. When the week is over, click New week to start fresh.

Set it up in about five minutes

Do this once. It’s easiest on a computer.

  1. Buy it on the Notion Marketplace and add it to your workspace when Notion asks. A free Notion account is enough.

  2. Open Start here and click the button in step 1 to hide the 12 sample recipes. They leave the menu and the grocery list too.

  3. Under My recipes, click New. Name the recipe and set Serves, then add each ingredient to the table with its Qty, Unit and Aisle.

  4. Found a recipe online? Click the arrow next to New, pick Saved from the web and paste the link.

  6. Open Grocery list. The week’s ingredients are there by aisle. Tick Got it as you shop.

Type fractions as decimals, like 0.5 or 1.5. You need shows them as ½ and 1 ½.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if

  • Your recipes live in browser tabs, screenshots and a notebook.
  • You plan dinners for the week and shop once.
  • You often cook for more or fewer people than a recipe says.
  • You want to keep family recipes along with their story.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want calories and macros. Weekly Meal Planner tracks those.
  • You want ingredients read from a website for you. You type them into the table.
  • You want to track what’s in your pantry. This one covers recipes and shopping.
  • You want a printed cookbook. This one lives in Notion.

Questions

Does it work on the free Notion plan?

Yes. It runs on databases, formulas and buttons, and the free plan has all three.

Can I change how many people a recipe feeds?

Yes. Type a number in Cook for and every amount under You need changes, on the recipe and on the grocery list. Set Serves first so it knows what the recipe makes.

Can I save recipes from websites?

Yes. Pick Saved from the web and paste the link, or use the Notion Web Clipper on a computer and the Share menu on your phone. Add the ingredients you want on your list to its table.

What happens when I take a recipe off the menu?

Nothing is deleted. The recipe stays in your book and its ingredients leave the grocery list.

Can I add things that aren’t in a recipe?

Yes. Click New page under an aisle on the grocery list and type it in, like paper towels.

Does it count calories or macros?

No. Our Weekly Meal Planner does, if you want that too.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Setup is easiest on a computer. After that, the Notion app works well for cooking and shopping.

Where does the template go after I pay?

From the Notion Marketplace, Notion adds it to your workspace right away. From Etsy, you download a PDF with the template link, open it and click Duplicate.
