Watch the 42-second tour

This week’s pins, the seasons coming up, boards, links and monthly results, filmed in the real template.

What it does that most Pinterest templates don’t

We went through the Pinterest templates people pay for in Notion before we built this one. Most give you a list of pins and boards. This one also checks where your keyword sits, tells you when a link is ready for a fresh pin and when to start on each holiday.

  • Keyword check

Each pin tells you if its first keyword is in the first 40 characters of the title, the part people see in the feed.

  • Holidays, early enough

Add a holiday once. Start pinning gives the day to begin, 45 days ahead unless you pick another lead time.

  • A fresh pin for each link

Each link counts a week from its latest pin, then says Ready for a new pin. Your pins spread out without a spreadsheet.

  • Numbers that mean something

Type three numbers once a month. Save rate and click rate work themselves out, and Top pins shows what brings the most clicks.

We tried every button before we published it: + New pin opens a new pin in Idea, Clear sample data empties the main page and Bring back sample data puts the sample back.

What’s inside

The main page has this week’s pins, the holidays and seasons coming up, your boards, your links, monthly results and your top pins. Pins, Boards, Links, the Seasonal calendar and Monthly results each have a page of their own.

Also in the template

  • Title and description length

Each pin counts its title out of 100 characters and its description out of 500.

  • Keywords as tags

Type a new keyword on any pin and it’s there to pick next time.

  • Pin formats

Mark each pin as standard, video or collage, and tick Fresh image when it’s a new design for an old link.

  • Sample blog

A small baking blog a few weeks in shows how it all fits. One button clears it, and another brings it back.

How to use it

  1. Click + New pin for each idea and give it a board, a link and a keyword.

  2. Drag the card from Idea to Published as you design, schedule and post it.

  3. Check Coming up for the holidays you should start on now.

  4. Once a month, copy your numbers into Monthly results.

Set it up in about five minutes

You do this once. It’s easiest on a computer.

  1. Buy it on Etsy and download the Start here PDF. Open the template link in it and click the Duplicate icon (two small squares) at the top. A free Notion account is enough.

  2. Open Start here and click the button to clear the sample, so you start empty.

  3. In Boards, add your boards with the same names you use on Pinterest and a main keyword for each.

  4. In Links, add each page you send people to: a blog post, a product or your shop.

  5. Click + New pin, give it a title, a board, a link and one or two keywords. Add the Publish date when you post it.

  6. Once a month, add a row in Monthly results with your impressions, saves and outbound clicks.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if

  • You use Pinterest to bring people to your blog, shop or products.
  • You want your pin ideas, boards and links in one place instead of notes and spreadsheets.
  • You plan around holidays and seasons and want to start on time.
  • You want a simple monthly look at what’s working.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want your pins posted for you. This is a planner, so you post on Pinterest yourself.
  • You want your numbers pulled in on their own. You copy them from Pinterest Analytics once a month.
  • You want to design pin images here. Make them in your design app and drop the image in.

Questions

Does it work on the free Notion plan?

Yes, all of it.

Is it made by Pinterest?

No. It’s our own planner for people who use Pinterest. It isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Pinterest, and it doesn’t connect to your account.

Why the first 40 characters?

That’s about how much of a title people see in the feed, so the keyword check looks there. It checks the first keyword on the pin, whatever its case.

Why a week between pins to the same link?

It’s a common habit among people who pin for their site, and Next pin follows it. It’s a guide, not a Pinterest rule, and you can make several pins for one link.

What about holidays that move each year?

Give those a full date instead of a month and day. Once one has passed, change it to next year’s date. Fixed ones roll on by themselves.

Where does the template go after I pay?

You download a Start here PDF from Etsy with the template link. Open the link and click the Duplicate icon at the top of the page, and the copy is yours to keep and change.
