What it does that most moving templates don’t

We looked at the moving templates people pick in Notion and at what people search for before a move. A countdown, a week by week list and a way to find things in boxes come up again and again. This one has all three, with the tasks already written for you.

Counts down to moving day

Add your move date and the card counts the days. The Now line tells you which week of the checklist you’re in.
41 tasks, ready to go

From giving notice to getting your deposit back, sorted from 8 weeks before to after the move. Keep them, delete some or add your own.
Boxes you can find

Number each box by room with what’s inside. Fragile and Open first show on the card, so the first night is easy.
Costs and quotes side by side

Each cost shows your estimate next to what you paid. Mover quotes sit in one table, so booking one is a quick choice.

How to use it

Open the main page and start with the week the Now line shows.
Tick Done on what you finish, and it leaves the board.
Add each box as you pack it and write its number on the box.
Add costs and quotes as they come in.

Set it up in about five minutes

You do this once. It’s easiest on a computer, and ticking tasks works well on your phone.

Buy it on Etsy and download the Start here PDF. Open the template link in it and click the Duplicate icon (two small squares) at the top. A free Notion account is enough.
Open Start here and click the button to clear the sample. The 41 tasks stay, unticked, for you to use.
Open Our move and add your move date, where you’re moving from and to, and your budget.
Start with the first week on the checklist and tick Done as you go.
In Boxes, click New under a room, add the number and what’s inside, then tick Packed.
Add each cost in Budget and each quote in Movers.

Pack sheets, towels and chargers in a box marked Open first, so you know which one to open on the first night.

Questions

Does it work on the free Notion plan?

Yes, all of it. Box photos can be up to 5 MB each there.

What if my move is less than 8 weeks away?

Start with the week the Now line shows. Then look through the earlier weeks and do what still matters, like booking movers.

Does it work outside the US?

Yes. The tasks fit most moves, and prices show in dollars. For another currency, change the number format on Estimate, Actual, Budget and Quote, and the $ in the Difference formula.

Can my partner or family use it too?

Yes. Share the page with them in Notion and you’ll all see the same checklist and boxes. Sharing with a few people works on the free plan.

Where does the template go after I pay?

You download a Start here PDF from Etsy with the template link. Open the link and click the Duplicate icon at the top of the page, and the copy is yours to keep and change.

How it works inside

Countdown: Days from today to your move date: in N days, tomorrow, today, then how long ago you moved.
Now: The week you’re in from the days left: over 42 is 8 weeks before, over 28 is 6 weeks, over 14 is 4 weeks, over 7 is 2 weeks, then moving week, moving day and after the move.
Difference: What you paid against your estimate, shown as over, under or on estimate.
State: Not packed yet, Packed or Unpacked, from the two ticks.
Clear sample data: Hides the sample boxes, costs and movers, unticks the checklist and empties the move card. A button at the bottom of Start here brings them back.
