What it does that most med school templates don’t

The most copied med school templates on Notion are note dashboards and study calendars for one exam. This one keeps track of the work in between: which lectures are due again, how your questions are going by subject and how far your practice scores are from your target.

  • Reviews on a schedule

After you study a lecture, click Done today. It shows up again the next day, then 3 days later, then 7 days later.

  • Exams with a target

Each exam card counts the days and lines up your practice scores against your target. Taking a dedicated period? It counts that too.

  • Questions by subject

Log each qbank block with questions and correct. Weak topics puts your lowest percent first, so you know where to go next.

  • Mistakes worth keeping

Save the questions you want to remember with a reason and a short takeaway. Each one comes back for review 3 days later.

We set it up from a fresh copy, the way you’ll get it: cleared the samples, added an exam with + Exam, logged a block with + Qbank block, clicked Done today on a lecture and brought the samples back.

What’s inside

The home page starts with what’s due today, then your exams, the last 7 days of questions, your weak topics, the block you’re in and the week ahead.

Review today

Qbank, last 7 days

Every block from the past week with its subject, questions, correct and percent. The totals sit at the bottom.

Mistakes

Each one has a reason, like Knowledge gap or Ran out of time, a takeaway and the block it came from.

Weak topics

Percent correct by subject, lowest first, with your open mistakes next to each. Subjects show up once they have 20 questions.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if

  • You want lecture reviews to come back without planning them yourself.
  • You do qbank blocks and want your percent by subject in one place.
  • You have a board, shelf or block exam coming and a target score in mind.
  • You’re in preclinical years or on rotations, or both.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want a full note system with lecture notes and images for every topic.
  • You want a ready day by day schedule for one exam. You plan the days yourself.
  • You want flashcards inside Notion. You log how many you did, the cards stay in your app.
  • You’re applying to medical school. This is for after you get in.

Questions

Does it work on the free Notion plan?

Yes. It runs on databases, formulas and buttons, and the free plan has all three.

Does it work for USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK?

Yes, and for shelf, block and other licensing exams too. You name each exam and set your own target, as a percent for pass or fail exams or a three digit score. USMLE is a joint program of the FSMB and NBME, and we have no tie to them or to any question bank or flashcard app.

How do the review days work?

Each lecture gets three reviews. Click Done today and the next one comes 1, 3 or 7 days later. Late ones stay under Review today, and the next date counts from the day you actually review.

Can I use it with my own question bank?

Yes. You type in the numbers from any question bank after a block: subject, questions and correct. Nothing connects to another app.

What if I start in the middle of a block?

Add only the lectures you study from today. For older ones, set Reviews to 3 and they won’t come back.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Setup is easiest on a computer. On a phone, Done today and the three home page buttons take a tap.

Where does the template go after I pay?

You download a Start here PDF from Etsy with the template link. Open the link and click the Duplicate icon at the top of the page, and the copy is yours to keep and change.
