What it does that most book trackers don’t

Readers who leave a low rating on a book tracker tend to say the same thing: it was confusing. This one keeps to the few things you do with a book, and counts the rest for you.

  • Your year in one card

Books, pages, average rating, your goal and how many you read each month, counted from the books you finish.

  • Start and finish in one click

Start reading fills in the start date. Mark as finished fills in the finish date and moves the book to your year.

  • A fresh start every January

Your stats and the reading challenge count this year’s books on their own. Last year’s stay on the shelf under their year.

  • A reading challenge built in

24 prompts, from a classic to a book under 200 pages. Link a book you finished and the prompt is done.

We set it up from a fresh copy, the way you’ll get it: cleared the sample, added a book, clicked Start reading and Mark as finished, rated it and checked that it counted in the year.

What’s inside

The main page shows what you’re reading, your year so far, what’s up next and what you finished lately. Library, the reading challenge and your quotes each have a page of their own.

Currently reading

Each book you’re reading with its cover, the author and a progress bar that fills as you update your page number.

Already read some books this year? Type them in the Add past reads tab in Library.

Is it right for you?

A good fit if

  • You want to see what you read this year without counting.
  • You like to rate books and write a few lines about each one.
  • You have a long TBR and want to pick by mood.
  • You set a yearly goal or like a reading challenge.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want to look up books and fill in covers on their own. You add each book yourself.
  • You want charts and graphs. The stats are simple text bars.
  • You want to log reading time by the minute. It tracks pages, not sessions.
  • You track a book club’s reading for many people. It’s made for one reader.

Questions

Does it work on the free Notion plan?

Yes. It runs on databases, formulas and buttons, and the free plan has all three.

Do I need to reset it every January?

No. The stats and the challenge count the books you finish this year. Last year’s books stay in Library under their year.

How do I add a cover?

Open the book and click Cover. Remove the plain one, then add a photo of your copy or an image link. No cover? The plain one looks fine on the shelf.

Does it work for ebooks and audiobooks?

Yes. Type the print page count in Pages so your page total stays right. Halfway through a 300 page book is page 150.

What if I give up on a book?

Change its status to DNF. You’ll find it in Library under DNF, and it doesn’t count in your stats.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Setup is easiest on a computer. On a phone, changing your page number or finishing a book takes a couple of taps.

Where does the template go after I pay?

You download a Start here PDF from Etsy with the template link. Open the link and click the Duplicate icon at the top of the page, and the copy is yours to keep and change.

What if I get stuck?
